APS Cedar Mountain (Q113) 500kV Transmission Line and Switchyard Interconnection Project
On April 15, 2011, the Arizona Corporation Commission granted APS a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility (CEC) for a series of proposed 500kV transmission lines and a new switchyard near Williams, Arizona. The new facilities are needed to connect the Perrin Ranch Wind, LLC wind generation project to the existing APS-operated 500kV transmission system. The existing 500kV transmission line is jointly owned by APS, SRP, TEP, and Western Area Power Administration.
APS is not participating in the development of the proposed wind generation project. However, the company has entered into a power purchase agreement to purchase the output of this particular facility. The project name of "Q113" is a reference to the wind generation project occupying the 113th position in the current APS transmission interconnection queue.
Construction on the new 500kV Switchyard began in 2011 is expected to be complete and in-service by the end of 2011. The Q113 Switchyard has been renamed and is now called Cedar Mountain. Questions on construction can be directed to Paul Richards, APS Construction Project Manager at (602) 371-6186.
