Transmission and Facility Siting - Completed Projects

Yavapai to Paulden 69kV
Transmission Line Project

As a result of public input and internal analysis, APS has selected locations for new electrical facilities that will help ensure reliable service for customers in the Chino Valley and Paulden areas.

The locations for these facilities were selected after consideration of the following factors: engineering requirements, constructability, cost, land acquisition, compatibility with the surrounding environment, public input gathered at open house events APS hosted in Chino Valley and Paulden in October 2004, and discussions with key stakeholders in the project impact areas.

Originally introduced to the community in March 2004, the Yavapai-to-Chino Valley Paulden Siting Project includes the construction of three separate 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines and two substations. Construction of these facilities is necessary because recent growth in Yavapai County has resulted in APS’ electric infrastructure nearing its capacity. Maintaining and improving electrical facilities is critical to providing reliable service.

A portion of the Yavapai Substation to Chino Valley CV3 Substation Project crosses lands administered by the Prescott National Forest; therefore, the project is required to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). An Environmental Assessment (EA) is being prepared under the direction of the Prescott National Forest as required by NEPA. The EA discusses the environmental effects of the project and identifies potential mitigation measure that would be used to reduce impacts. The Prescott National Forest will review the EA and issue a decision notice regarding the proposed transmission line route on Forest land. A decision is expected later this year. For further information regarding the EA and any changes in status, please check this site.

APS anticipates completing the project in the 2008 timeframe. The links to the newsletter and project map below will provide more information.
