Doney Park 69kV Transmission Line Project
APS worked with representatives of the Coconino National Forest (CNF) to perform the evaluations and studies that are necessary to establish a utility right-of-way that would allow APS to construct a new 69kV power line. The new power line would connect the existing Flagstaff to Tuba City 69kV power line with the proposed Doney Park Substation. APS submitted an Environmental Assessment (EA) to the CNF in August, 2006 detailing the existing environmental conditions and the potential impacts of this project.
On January 22, 2007 the CNF issued a Decision Notice and a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) on the project. The associated legal notice was published in the Arizona Daily Sun on January 25, 2007. You can view the FONSI and legal notice under the latest information section of this page.
APS is continuing to work with Coconino County and CNF to acquire the permits and right-of-way for construction of the new 69kV power line. Current plans call for construction of the new line in 2015. The timing of construction may be advanced or delayed based on the electrical needs of the area.
The Doney Park Substation is permitted and preliminary grading and wall construction will be completed as part of the larger Doney Park Renewable Energy Site. Construction work at this site is scheduled to start in 2011. The Doney Park Renewable Energy Site is a piece of the APS Community Power Project, a renewable energy pilot program in the Doney Park area. More information.
The renewable energy facilities and the planned 69kV source to the Doney Park substation will provide the capacity and reliability necessary to support the growing electrical needs of this area.
