North Gila to TS-8 to Yucca 230kV Transmission Line Project
APS has completed the state siting process for this project. A rigorous public outreach process was conducted over an approximately two year period beginning in March of 2010 and ending with approval of a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility by the Arizona Corporation Commission on February 2, 2012.
The project includes two phases of double circuit 230kV transmission line. The first phase, with a completion date of 2015, is approximately 13 miles in length and begins at the existing North Gila Substation northeast of the City of Yuma and terminates at a future TS-8 Substation to the southwest. The second phase of the project is approximately 19 miles in length with a “To Be Determined” in-service date as that phase of the project is currently beyond APS’ ten-year planning horizon. The second phase begins at the TS-8 Substation and terminates at the Yucca Power Plant Switchyard in the northwest portion of the Yuma Area.
The project, when completed, will help ensure the Yuma Region will have the necessary electric resources for the future as well as significantly improve APS electric system reliability in the area.
If you have any questions or comments about the project, you may send us your comments or call Paul Herndon, APS Project Manager, at (866) 472-4484 (Press "1" for the Project Manager).
