Vegetation Management Pruning Cycle

APS inspects all our company facilities for hazardous conditions and removes vegetation around overhead power lines, underground transformers and switching cabinets.

Approximately 23,000 miles of distribution lines (those carrying between 4,000 volts to 21,000 volts) and 5,000 miles of transmission lines (those carrying between 60,000 volts and 500,000 volts) are inspected systematically. Our maintenance cycles for each line depend on the area’s environment and the growth rate of trees in that particular area.

APS arborists inspect the lines and equipment for vegetation issues and then notify customers in advance of necessary work to be scheduled on their property. Remaining debris is collected and chipped up at the time routine work is performed.

During storm restoration, APS only performs a courtesy knock on the door to notify the customer we are on their property. Our immediate priority is to restore power to our customers. APS does not clean up brush, trees or limbs that are cut or on the ground under any circumstances or conditions.
