What if I see a tree too close to APS power lines?
Contact our Customer Care Center at (602) 371-7171 in Phoenix, or (800) 253-9405. An APS Forestry representative will be sent to inspect the tree within 10 business days.

Why does my tree have a “V” or other odd shape to it after APS prunes for line clearance?
Depending on where the tree is located in relationship to the power lines it will be pruned to direct growth away from the lines. Directional pruning is best for the tree’s health, topping the tree is not beneficial and perhaps the most harmful tree pruning practice known. In some cases it is best to remove trees located directly under the power lines.

What if I prefer to have my tree removed completely rather than having it pruned?
When you are contacted by an APS forestry representative, ask if this is an option in your situation. If you are calling in the tree work request, mention that this is your preference. The forestry representative will make a determination on your request during the site visit.

Why does my palm tree have to be removed rather then pruned?
Palm trees can be a serious safety issue for non-line clearance qualified tree workers. Even if the palm fronds or seed pods are not near enough to energized lines or equipment to be a reliability problem, they can still be close enough to be a risk to a private or commercial tree worker. If the tree worker’s pruning equipment or a cut frond comes into contact with an energized line, serious electrical injury or death to that person can occur.

If palm fronds or seed pods are close enough to pose a reliability problem, it becomes necessary to remove the entire tree since the rate of re-growth does not allow for adequate clearance to the power lines.
