Dishwashers
When buying a new dishwasher, choose a model with a built-in heater to boost the water temperature. Then you can lower your water heater setting by 10 degrees - which will cut your water heating energy use.

Other energy-saving features to look for are short cycle selections and an air dry selector.  Short cycles use less hot water and are suitable for less soiled dishes. The air-dry feature automatically shuts off the heat during the drying cycle, reducing electricity use by up to 20%.

Do full dishwasher loads and advance the dial or turn off after the final rinse.

If you rinse dishes before loading them into the dishwasher, only use cold water.
