Combined Advantage 9 p.m. - 9 a.m. Rate Plan

If you use more energy on weekends, late evening or early morning hours, the Combined Advantage 9 p.m. - 9 a.m. plan may be best for you. This plan does, however, require unassisted access to your meter.

The Combined Advantage 9 p.m. - 9 a.m. plan offers two ways to save. You can save on your electricity bill by adjusting when you use energy and how much you use at one time.

Here's how it works:

If you live in a home that uses a large amount of energy and can shift energy to off-peak hours and cut your on-peak energy use, you are more likely to lower your bill through the Combined Advantage 9 p.m. - 9 a.m. plan. The Combined Advantage 9 p.m. - 9 a.m. plan offers you a lower price per kilowatt hour (kWh) for electricity than any other APS plan. In fact, it's much lower! But there is a charge for your demand of electricity. Demand is defined as the highest amount of electricity used in a 60 minute on-peak period (9 a.m. - 9 p.m., Monday - Friday) in the month.

  • On this plan, electricity used during on-peak hours costs more, so you'll want to limit your use during these hours.
  • And the more electric appliances you use at one time during on-peak hours, the higher your kW demand charge. So you'll also want to spread out your electrical usage by limiting the number of major appliances you use at the same time during these hours.

Here is a detailed comparison of our rate plans. Or, you can compare sample calculations of this Combined Advantage 9 p.m. - 9 a.m. plan with the similar Combined Advantage  7 p.m. - Noon plan (both summer and winter months):

The Combined Advantage 9 p.m. - 9 a.m. plan may be best for you when:

  • The APS meter readers have safe on-going unlimited access and can physically touch the meter each month.
  • You operate your major electric appliances (water heater, pool pump, spa heater) with a timer set to run only during off-peak hours.
  • You spread out the use of major electric appliances during on-peak hours.
  • You use your dishwasher, washer, dryer and range mostly during off-peak hours.
  • You can set  and leave your air conditioner thermostat at a warmer temperature during on-peak hours.

Compare this plan to the Combined Advantage 7 p.m. - noon plan.

As with all of our residential rate plans, you should remain on this plan for one year.
