Dogs and Access to Your Meter

Even a friendly dog may object to a stranger entering their yard and react unexpectedly. Unfortunately, dog bites have resulted in numerous serious injuries to our employees.

For this reason, our service personnel and meter readers are unable to enter a yard where a dog is present.

If your dog has access to the area in which your meter is located:

  • Please contain the dog inside your home on scheduled service order dates. This includes securing pet doors. Our service personnel may not be able to tell if your dog is tethered to a tree or post and will not enter your yard.

  • You will not be eligible for our time-of-use rates. These rates require our meter readers to touch your meter each month. It will be necessary to install permanent fencing that prevents your dog from accessing the meter area and path our meter readers take to reach your meter prior to enrolling in a time-of-use rate.

Please let us know if you get a dog or have a visiting dog in your yard. Contact us by e-mail or by phone at (602) 371-7171 or toll-free at (800) 253-9405 if you have any questions.
