VV01 to Copper Canyon 69kV
Transmission Line Project
The Prescott National Forest (PNF) has issued a Decision Notice and Plan Amendment for the proposed APS 69kV transmission line project. The project includes a new 500/69kV substation (VV-01), located near the existing 500kV power line west of Interstate 17 in Section 24, Township 12 North, Range 2 East. The VV01 substation would be located on land leased by APS from the Arizona State Land Department. The project also includes approximately 22 miles of new overhead 69kV power line beginning at the VV01 substation and terminating at the Copper Canyon substation located in Section 1, Township 13 North, Range 4 East.
The majority of the proposed action occurs on lands managed by the US Forest Service, Prescott National Forest. A right-of-way grant by the PNF and compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), is required. Since July of 2006 APS and the PNF have been working together to identify feasible actions that would meet the electrical needs of APS while complying with the management objectives of the PNF. Those studies have resulted in the Environmental Assessment (EA), Decision Notice (DN), and Plan Amendment (PA) that have identified a proposed action for the new 69kV power line.
The Decision Notice has been posted for the required 45 day appeal period. If no appeals are submitted during this period, the PNF will issue APS the necessary easement to construct the project. The Decision Notice and Plan Amendment have been attached below under Latest Information. The entire EA may be viewed on the PNF web site at:
